Keep the Promise Tour:Breakfast in the South Hills Making the drillers pay their fair share The Pennsylvania State Legislature promised to pass a severance tax on deep natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale by October 1. Now we must make sure that a promise made is a promise kept. The drilling companies are spending enormous amounts of money to stop the severance tax. They have hired lobbyists of every stripe - including former Governor Tom Ridge - and are working hard to keep the voice of the people from being heard. The drillers will make enormous profits from the natural gas they take from our land - it's only fair that they pay a reasonable tax that will go to protect our environment and local communities that "host" the drilling, fund our natural resource agencies, and help balance our budget. Join PennFuture on the Keep the Promise Tour to send the message that Pennsylvanians demand that the drillers pay their fair share. The Tour is traveling throughout the state, holding town hall meetings with legislators and other elected and appointed officials, representatives of land trust organizations and conservancies, anglers and hunters, and ordinary citizens who care about Pennsylvania's environment and economy, all to make sure our elected officials Keep the Promise. Participants at this location: •Jan Jarrett, PennFuture President and CEO •Representative David Levdansky (D-Allegheny and Washington) •John Arway, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission •Roy Kranyk, Executive Director, Allegheny Land Trust •Additional speakers TBA Date: Wednesday, September 8, 2010 Time: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM Location: Georgetown Centre 526 East Bruceton Road Pittsburgh, PA 15236 RSVP online:http://my.pennfuture.org/site/Calendar/1370778644

The Forestville Volunteer Fire Department Fall Festival Trail Run/Walk takes place up and around the hills of Forestville. You'll be on single and double track trails leading you through changing forest, Concord Grape vineyards, and open meadows, with views across Lake Erie and into the surrounding valleys. The trails are private and will be open for this once a year event. All proceeds go directly to the Forestville Volunteer Fire Department. This year we're changing things up a little. The venue has been moved to Someday Maybe Farms on Dennison Road in Forestville. The new route gives more options such as multiple distances and less roads. There will be a 1.5 mile fun run/walk and a 3.5 mile run/walk. For those who like a challenge, we are adding an 11 mile run which is all trails except for a short .5 miles on the roads. We are also adding a post race party and cookout. Someday Maybe will be grilling up some all natural hamburgers to go along with farm fresh salads. There will also be a baked ziti option for vegetarians. For families not racing, the Forestville Fall Festival is taking place a short drive down the road.
