Gym to Crag: Anchor Building - Public Lands

Learning to build solid and safe anchors for rock climbing is a great skill to learn as you progress from crushing it at the gym to getting into the great outdoors. Learn how to build different types of anchors from American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) Instructor, Ryan Shipp at Public Lands Cranberry.

In this class we will cover:

  • Bolt anchors
  • Natural Anchors
  • Top Rope Anchors

This class will primarily be taught from the ground and we will provide necessary gear.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Participants must know how to belay and tie a figure-8 knot.

Minimum age 16. Class capped at 8 participants.  Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled class.   

About the Instructor: Ryan Shipp

Ryan Shipp is from South Central PA and has been climbing and guiding for 20 years. As an experienced outdoor educator, AMGA Multi-Pitch Instructor, AMGA Single Pitch Instructor, and AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor Provider, he loves sharing the sport of climbing with others. He enjoys volunteering to protect PA's climbing areas through South Central Pennsylvania Climbers. Outside of running his guide service (Levitation Climbing) and volunteering, he can be found climbing and traveling with his wife around the country and world.
