Volunteer Event! Aspinwall Riverfront Cleanup
- Thursday, September 22, 2022
- 4:30 PM 7:30 PM
Location: Allegheny RiverTrail Park - 285 River Ave.Pittsburgh, PA, 15215
Join Allegheny CleanWays and 3 Rivers Outdoor Co. for a cleanup on the banks of the Allegheny River! We’ll depart from the 3ROC Outpost in Allegheny RiverTrail Park and travel upriver, stopping at various points along the bank to remove trash and prevent it from re-entering the waterway.
What will we be doing?
Volunteers will meet at Allegheny RiverTrail Park (formally Aspinwall Riverfront Park) where we will go over safety, our work plan for the day, and then we will be off to collect trash from land and water! We will use our pontoon boat, Rachel Carson, to shuttle volunteers up and down the banks.
What do I wear?
Clothes: Please wear clothes that you are comfortable with potentially getting muddy/wet. Volunteers are required to wear long pants. We also recommend bringing long-sleeve shirt to avoid being scratched or coming in contact with poison ivy and sun. It is also suggested to bring a change of clothes in case you have a bit too much fun pulling a muddy tire.
Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are required. We recommend rubber boots or waterproof boots.
What do I bring?
Please be sure to bring your reusable water bottle!
All volunteers will be provided with work gloves, life jackets, safety glasses, and tools. We will also have all necessary safety equipment available such as first aid, sunscreen, bug spray, canned water, and light snacks.
Please send any questions or comments to hannah@alleghenycleanways.org! See you on the water!
VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
Allegheny CleanWays
Allegheny CleanWays' small, but mighty crew engages community-driven volunteers in bridge & step, dumpsite, storm drain, litter, and riverfront cleanups. They also provide resources to help municipalities eliminate illegal dumping and individuals to care for their neighborhoods. To date, nearly 17,000 volunteers have worked alongside their crew to remove more than 5.4 million pounds of trash and 39,000 tires from our rivers and neighborhoods. The hard work they do isn't for everyone. But the results sure are!
