This Sunday Sept 25, South Park, a park in the Allegheny County park system, will host for the first time a map-and-compass outdoor meet, event by the Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club. There will be 5 courses available, ranging from beginner to advanced, from 2 km to 7 km. The map is brand new. Lots of interesting features, some natural and other man-made. Afterwards, you can enjoy the Oliver Miller Homestead, just next to the meet headquarters, which opens at 1:30 PM to visitors, with demonstrations of life in the 18th century. So, don't miss this great opportunity. There is plenty to do on this one location on this day, and it will be well worth your trip and time. Show up any time to the Grant shelter in South Park, between 10:45 AM and 2:00 PM, and you will be given a color map of the course of your choice. Not a mass start. Staggered starts. Cost is only $6. Group or family doing event together with one purchased map, the cost is still just $6 for the entire group. Volunteers will be giving free instruction.
