New Year’s Eve Bird Walk

Ever wonder what birds are utilizing Pittsburgh’s wooded hillsides for habitat? Join local naturalists on a winter bird walk as we identify and count the birds throughout Riverview Park. This 3-mile winter walk will cover park trails and some steep hills.

Data collected on this outing will be submitted to the Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count database. This bird census is the longest running community science project of its kind and began in 1900 as an alternative to the traditional bird hunts of Christmas Day. Hundreds of bird counts are now conducted throughout the Western Hemisphere, and they continue to contribute valuable scientific data and important insight into the health and status of bird populations.

Venture Outdoors will provide binoculars for participants to use. Participants of all levels are invited to attend and share birding facts.
