Intro to Mixed Ice Climbing Clinic

Learn to practice the emerging art of mixed ice and rock climbing with an experienced local. Learn to use ice tools and crampons on dry rock inter-mixed with frozen icicles. Some mixed climbs include both mediums, while other "dry-tooling" lines are composed entirely of rock.

  • Be introduced to the fun new world of winter ice and rock "cragging"
  • Dry-tooling routes are often "in" before the ice forms and stay in when the ice melts (extend your season)
  • Get fully "pumped" as you learn techniques to get less pumped
  • Skills translate well to mixed alpine terrain on high peaks
  • Build your foundation for mixed routes that you can apply throughout the North East and beyond.

Cost
Free – However, donations will be accepted at the clinic. All profits will go to the Mike Brown Expedition Grant Fund. Anyone who donates $30.00 dollars or more will receive a free “Mixed Clinic T-shirt”.
This clinic is only for current ECP members that have completed the ECP Rock and Mountaineering Schools. You must be able to lead climb 5.9 outdoors and have led WI-3 ice to apply. Please only apply if you can make both days. The class limit is 5 students so apply early. Apply to tom_thomas@outlook.com with a small write up about your rock and ice climb skills and what ice climbing equipment you own.

Application deadline is January 25.
