Beginner Caving with the Pittsburgh Grotto

Join the Pittsburgh Grotto and fellow ECPers for a day of beginner caving!

Barton's Cave is a fairly easy cave just south of Uniontown. There's roughly a 15 minute hike on a dirt trail to get to the cave. The entrance is a 13 inch tall hole in the gate. The first third of the trip will be walking or short hands-and-knees crawls. Next is a short optional side passage with a sketchy climb. If people are still able, we can do the back section. It has water, mud and body crawls. The trip takes about 1-5 hours depending on how much we do and our speed. It's nearly impossible to get lost as we do every section. Excellent for first timers, but it isn't very decorated. You will need a helmet, 3 sources of light, shoes you can hike in, and warm, tough clothes. The Grotto has some extras, but not many: please ask beforehand. The trip itself will be on June 3rd, 10am. We'll be meeting at the Laurel Caverns parking lot.
